Simpsons Predictions

Janis Najera & Maddie Tran – staff writer

Even after 717 episodes of the animated show, “The Simpsons,” writers still keep us wondering what will happen next. And perhaps more intriguingly, will their predictions come true? Social media would have us believe that many scenes from previous episodes have come true, so let’s take a look.
Season 11, Episode 1: “Bart to the Future” predicted that Donald Trump would be elected President. The writer Dan Greaney explained in an interview in 2016 that this was a warning to the country, and “it was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.” In this episode, Lisa explained “the country is going broke” because Donald Trump was the former president.
Season 4, Episode 21: “Marge in Chains” foretold an unexpected flu that swept through Springfield. Killer bees also swarmed the city, much like the “murder hornets” that hit the U.S in 2020. Co-writer Bill Oakley told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview, “This episode was mainly just coincidence, as history tends to repeat itself.”
Season 23, Episode 3: “Lisa Goes Gaga” had Lady Gaga’s Simpson doppelganger perform a song for Springfield while suspended in the air. Five years later, at Lady Gaga’s halftime performance she descended from the roof, even wearing a similar silver outfit.
