Highlights: Looking back at the 2015-2016 school year

The 2015-2016 school year has brought many memories to Foothill’s students. It’s time to take a moment and look back to the times that made our student body laugh and prideful. (1) Trends come and go, and if you walked these halls this year you would hear students saying “Damn Daniel” and they would also be “dabbing.” 2) Most students would agree that the very first assembly of the year—the welcome back assembly—was definitely one to remember. The spirit in that gym bounced off the walls and into the students. A successful first assembly is a great indicator of a fun and spirited school year. (3) One very exciting moment was in November when Foothill’s water polo team became back-to-back CIF champions after a tough game against Dana Hills. (4) In December, Mr. Foothill showcased eight talented seniors. The winner, Garrett Elms, impressed the audience with his luscious locks and witty poetry. (5) Fire drills were developed to prepare students in a time of crisis, but this year at Foothill the system malfunctioned. Fire drills were going off day after day for a few weeks. At first, the students saw it as a time to get out of class, but after standing on the track in the heat, they admitted they would rather sit in class and work. (6) Many talented and well-respected artists like David Bowie and Prince passed away, leaving behind their music and their legacy. (7) Listening to any of these songs may remind you of this year: “Hello,” “Sorry,” “Hotline Bling,” “What Do U Mean?,” “Good For You,” “Ex’s and Oh’s,” “Jumpman,” “Panda,” “1738,” “Trap Queen,” “679,” “The Hills,”  “Can’t Feel My Face.” (8) Some memorable movies that came out this year include: Batman vs Superman, Jurassic World, and Star Wars: Episode 7. 6 Attachments

Live summer like the movies

Summer is approaching fast. The sad thing is that there’s only two short months to do entirely everything you want with your newfound freedom. Everyone has their own ideas, but the best ones can come from the silver screen. Here are several ways to model your summer after your favorite movie characters. Dazed and Confused:  Who says hazing incoming freshman isn’t fun? Show those new ruffians who’s boss, just don’t use cricket bats…or paddles…or physical violence in any way. Adventureland: Take up a summer job at an amusement park. Maybe strike up a conversation or two with that cute coworker who runs the ring toss booth. Just, whatever you do, when you get rejected, don’t listen to the Cure on repeat. Wet Hot American Summer: Maybe an amusement park isn’t for you. Go off to a rural summer camp and teach kids how to knit or tie a rope. Befriend the talking can of beans in the mess hall. Have a ball! The Sandlot: Grab a couple friends, some bats, and some baseballs. Go to your local dugout. If a dog starts attacking you…run. There’s no point in fighting back. Not only will you not win, but PETA will sue you for everything you own. Stand By Me: Summer is coming to an end. You and your friends are going your separate ways. You only have a few more weeks to cram in as much time together as possible. Just don’t dodge a train, dig it?
