California & Foothill Teachers of the Year
During the month of March, several of Foothill’s staff were honored with awards for their terrific contributions towards our school.
Mr. Farr was named the California CTE Teacher of the Year. Teaching for 28 years–25 of those at Foothill–he created the school’s FEAT program. The program, starting with a modest student-size of 32, has grown to encompass over 400 students, spanning multiple courses, ranging from Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Engineering Design and Development, and Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Robotics. Farr’s goal in creating the FEAT program was to create a program that prepared students not only for college, but also to prepare them for post-college careers.
Mr. Price was named Foothill Teacher of the Year, and advanced to TUSD Teacher of the Year. Price is responsible for creating the school’s Film and Television program, which started in the 2014-2015 school year, eleven years after he started teaching. “I realized that this school has a pretty large film community,” states Price, when asked about why he started the program. The program currently encompasses several different classes, including Dramatic Productions, Digital Filmmaking, Independent Filmmaking, and Digital Productions, which produces Foothill Television.
Springbreak
The beach is a great place to go to during spring break. There is more to do at the beach than just sit in the sun. You can bring a few different outfits and take a photo shoot, or you could walk on the pier. Another fun thing to do is have a beach bonfire. Venice Beach in Los Angeles is one of many famous beaches in California you could go to. Venice Beach offers street performers and artists, sand sculptors, fast food places, and beautiful scenery, perfect for a day out.
Universal Studios
Universal Studios is a fun, exciting thing to do during spring break. Located in the San Fernando Valley, Universal Studios offers many attractions that are fun for everyone. Some attractions in the park include, Harry Potter World, Jurassic Park, Transformers, and special effects shows. The Studio Tour, an attraction that offers a break from standing and waiting around, takes you behind the scenes, around 13 city blocks and four acres of land containing props and sets from many hit movies. Additionally you can meet characters like Captain America, Spider Man, Spongebob, and The Simpsons. If you decide to go to Harry Potter World, the best time to go on the rides there is at night. During the day, lines for the Harry Potter attractions can reach up to two hours long, but at night the line is much shorter.
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a beautiful artsy beach town in Los Angeles. There are always young moms walking pretty dogs and they usually let strangers pet and play with them, which makes it a perfect place to spend a day if you love the beach and dogs, but don’t want to go to a dog beach. The pier also has lots to do, but one of the best way to spend time in Santa Monica is to just sit and watch one of the picturesque sunsets.
