Foothill’s film team, under the supervision of Mr. Price, is launching Sliced, its own version of the popular TV show Chopped. Chopped highlights fast-paced cooking under a specific time limit with certain requirements.
Foothill’s version will be recorded in Chef Mosley’s Culinary 1 classes over a three-week span. Students can view the finished episodes on the Foothill Film School Youtube channel at the end of November.
Sliced will follow the format of the original show: contestants will be required to use mystery items in a basket that will be provided shortly before their actual cooking time, which will be limited to 20 minutes.
According to Mosley, “The theme ingredients must be highlighted in the dish.” The ingredients might be anything, known or used unknown to them. Mosley has ideas ready, but those ideas will remain a mystery until the reveal.
“I expect really good things. These Culinary 1 classes have far exceeded my expectations,” said Mosely.
The competition will be between three groups of four students each over three periods of Culinary 1.
Three judges will test the dishes on texture, execution, presentation, and the use of the theme ingredient.
If Sliced goes according to plan, another season will be filmed in the spring, when returning contestants will be far more experienced, and Chef Mosley can “increase the complexity of the ingredients.” Plans for something similar to this concept had been an idea for two years. Mr. Price says, “I think this is going to become a yearly collaboration.”
